News, Principal's Office
Dear Middle School Parents, Last week had to have been one of the busiest at KPIS, it seemed like there was such a bustle of energy around the school with our Middle School students representing us well in the Spelling Bee, giving their all in Volleyball, collaborating well in classes, and leading their Parent Teacher Conferences. For the latter, I would personally like to express my appreciation for the number of parents that came to visit with their child’s teachers. It is such a vital part of the learning process that we have an open dialog between teachers, students, and parents. This week, we will be having our Field Trip to the Science museum on Tuesday. This is an all day event leaving school at 7.30 and returning by 3…

Star Wars! G6 by Mr.Jeff P and Ris G6/2

Learning, News, Principal's Office
Star Wars! This week, Principal Ben brought in an amazing book on the cosmos to the Gr 6 science classroom. The students were so excited when they discovered it, that they swarmed the book, brought it to a desk, and chattered excitedly about the photos and used their learnings from their current astronomy unit to discuss what they saw on each page. This was a spontaneous example of real student engagement with, and excitement for, their learning! Thank you, Principal Ben, for this amazing opportunity for our students. Ris Grade 6 reflected: "Today my class and I got this wonderful book Cosmos, and other books. The book Cosmos teaches us a lot of information about planets and galaxies It really teaches us a lot, because the pictures make it interesting…

8th Grade Homeroom: Exodus (Frontline Documentary) By Mr. Alex

Learning, News
Over the course of 5 weeks, the 8/1 homeroom class has been watching two documentaries: Exodus, and Exodus: The Journey Continues. Frontline, an affiliate of PBS, produced the documentaries. In these documentaries Frontline, vividly captures the ongoing global crisis  - immigration - by profiling a few families over the span of 2 years. Students were actively engaged while watching these documentaries. They asked a number of questions which allowed us to partake in meaningful dialogue. We, as a class, were quite impacted by the documentary, that we decided to write letters to Frontline. Just a few days ago, Frontline sent us a response which you can see below. The students were amazed that their letters were read by the Frontline team. It was a great reinforcer for students to grasp…

[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhQWrHQwYTk[/embed] Dear Middle School Parents, As you may have seen from looking at your child's schedule, this year we have introduced a class into the weekly schedule called "Design"; but what is this exactly? As part of our ongoing efforts to push our students to become critical thinkers, effective communicators, global citizens and lifelong learners, we have begun introducing a course that will challenge our young adolescent learners to think beyond the ideas that they have thought before, to look deeper into their ideas, to work collaboratively in creating solutions and be able to present in a way that their ideas are truly heard. The video shared can give you an insight into what we hope to achieve. This process challenges our students to think beyond the conventional, to look…
